Speckles and Freckles and Dots

There is a old Southern saying, “Prettier than a speckled pup.”  I first heard it on Oprah and I’ve always loved it.  I grew up in a small Alberta town, so I’m not exactly a southern belle, and I’ve never had sweet tea, but I love some of the cutesy turns of phrase that are so common in the land of the Dixie Chicks.  I adore dogs, especially freckled dogs, double-especially freckled black (or grey) and white dogs.

I recently brought home a speckled pup of my own.  He is the most perfectly beautiful dotted doggy in the world and his name is Sherman.  He is a blue merle border collie/boxer mix, and as of today, he’s ten weeks old.

The swift among you have already realized that Sherman is the dog featured at the top of my blog, and the reason I’ve named it as I have.

I love his soft pink nose and that sweet puppy smell.  My favorite part is his freckles, though.  I’m really curious to see what he looks like when he grows up, but he’s so darn cute as a baby that I wish I could keep him tiny and sweet like this forever.  As long as he quits peeing under my kitchen table when my back is turned.

Stay tuned for more about Sherman the spectacular speckled dog.
