Guess what, folks: this is post one hundred here at Blue Speckled Pup. Astounding but true, like whipping cream in a can.
If you’re just joining the party, I started this blog in earnest after my grandpa died in February. He was always a big supporter of my writing, and he wanted me to pursue a career as an author, so I decided to write one post a day for a year, largely to honour the things he wished for me.
It’s funny, because many people have told me I’m teetering on the steep edge of insanity gorge by making a commitment to write every day. Let me say this: there are days when the person who boos me the most is me. Sometimes I can’t believe that I’ve undertaken something this demanding on top of my non-internet life, but I’m finding that it’s satisfying a part of my brain that isn’t challenged often enough, the part that threatens to eat the couch or sit in the kitchen and bark at the fridge like an under-exercised chocolate lab.
I really feel like I’m getting as much out of this as I’m putting in. To the readers I see often and the folks I’ll never get to meet, thanks from the bottom of my ventricles for reading my stuff and cheering me on.
If you want to read the things I like best here so far, see the posts about Grandpa, and the stuff about my momma and dad. I’m really quite ridiculous, so if you’d like to read about my weirdness, check out the post about accidentally peeing on my housecoat while recovering from hand surgery or my protest song about the weird hippies two doors over. You can also head on over to the “Kiss the Cook” section to read about my irreverent, delicious kitchen experiments or “Mammal Mondays” to read about my drooling cat Leroy and Sherman, the blue speckled pup who provided the name for my blog.
Many readers have also stopped by from other blogs to read my farewell to The Pioneer Woman, and I’m so glad they did. I followed that post up with a tribute to my grandma, who has been an incredible woman for the past 81 years and is still rocking along; she’s the kind of person I want to emulate.
Whoever you are, thank you for coming. I’m honoured that you took a few minutes of your day to read my blog, and I hope you’ll come back some time soon to see what’s new in the dollhouse.
