Today, right smack in the middle of a beautiful Family Day long weekend, The Electrician and I are celebrating six months of marriage. I can’t believe he’s been my husband for half a year already. Actually, it seems like he’s been mine for much, much longer, maybe because I can’t imagine my life without him. It’s one of those cheesy destiny things, really. Cue an 80’s power ballad, if you please.
To celebrate our semiversary, we went for breakfast at Cora (which is probably the best possible place to eat in the morning) did some around the house shopping at Wal-Mart, and came home to watch Arrested Development on DVD. We weren’t dressed up. I didn’t have to plan anything or bake a cake. No one took any photos: thankfully, since my entire beauty routine consisted of washing my face, brushing my teeth, and twisting my hair up. The whole day just consisted of my favourite person and laziness. Considering how crazy our lives get during the school year, particularly with foster dogs and the never-ending stack of essays on my kitchen table, it felt decadent to ignore my “should accomplish” list and spend time with my love.
Here we are, six months since our awesome elopement, and chugging along through a simple little life together. Today, and every day, I’m so very grateful he found me when he did and loves me for who I am. I won the husband lottery, and I know it.
