I took Sherman for his annual photo with Santa last Saturday. This year’s photo set is considerably better than last year’s, although Santa is clearly still wearing a budget bargain costume.
Last year’s photo:
And the 2011 edition:
Unlike last year, Sherman was scared of Santa! Poor guy. I guess it’s no different than all my friends’ kids who shriek and try to flee from the jolly old elf’s lap when they meet him at the mall, but it’s still a pain in the butt when my kid chooses to act up in front of a crowd.
All the festive photography, however delightfully tacky, is for a very good cause. Every penny of the fifteen dollars each dog owner pays for his or her pooch to meet Santa Claus (and receive a printed photo and the pdf to send to family, friends, and blog readers) goes to support Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, or S.C.A.R.S.
Although the Edmonton Humane Society, which is the shelter in the city, does not limit how long an animal can stay while waiting to be adopted, many pounds in surrounding smaller communities euthanize cats, dogs, and other companion animals after their brief alloted time in care expires. S.C.A.R.S. saves many pets scheduled to die and finds them loving permanent homes. If you are in the Edmonton area and you are capable of providing the care, training, and effort a rescue requires, please consider visiting the S.C.A.R.S. website to view the sweet animals available for adoption.
If you are already a pet owner, Sherman, Leroy and I sincerely encourage you to help alleviate the pet overpopulation crisis by spaying or neutering your mammal(s). There is truly no good reason to leave your pet intact: not one. Sherman has been neutered for a whole year already, and, as you can tell, he’s a happy, healthy goofball, with or without his, um, goofballs.
Speaking of similar territory, I apologize for Sherm’s position in his Santa photos. He is rather flamboyantly on display. If I knew how to use photoshop, I’d preserve his modesty with a sprig of mistletoe or something, but since my technological skill is somewhat limited, you’re stuck with these rather racy holiday photos.
